
Snowfall warnings for much of northeastern Ontario

Much of northern Ontario will see heavy snowfall on Friday.
Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings for the areas around North Bay, Greater Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, Temiskaming Shores, West Nipissing, Gogama, Espanola, Elliott Lake, Manitoulin Island, Wawa, Chapleau, Searchmont, Blind River and Thessalon, calling for up to 15 centimetres of snow and snowfall rates of up to two to four centimetres per hour.
A low-pressure system called an Alberta clipper is behind the snowfall, the weather office said.
Snow will be heaviest in the morning across much of the northeast and will taper to flurries in the evening.
It will be heaviest in the afternoon in the North Bay, Greater Sudbury, Espanola and Gogama areas and will taper to flurries overnight.
In addition to the snowfall warnings, the weather office has issued a winter weather travel advisory for the Kirkland Lake area. It's calling for total snowfall of up to 10 cm. and reduced visibility.
It has also issued an extreme cold warning for Waskaganish, saying wind chill values could reach –38 C and –43 C.
