Snowfall in Kashmir valley affects flight operations at Srinagar airport, restoration work underway, electricity load rises, roads closed.
Flight operations at the Srinagar International Airport were affected on Monday (January 6, 2025) due to snowfall in the Kashmir valley, officials said.
"The snow clearance operation is in progress at the runway. All airlines have pushed their flights after 9:30 a.m.," an Airports Authority of India official said.
The Kashmir valley received a fresh spell of snow on Sunday.
The airport's operations were hit by dense fog on Saturday and Sunday, leading to flight delays, diversions and cancellations.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said post-snowfall restoration work in the valley was underway in full swing and being closely monitored.
The Kashmir valley and some areas in the Jammu division recorded moderate to heavy snowfall on Sunday, leading to road closures and snapping of electricity supply in many areas.
“Following the snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir yesterday [Sunday], particularly in the valley, restoration work is in full swing and being closely monitored,” Mr. Abdullah said in a post on X.
