Smriti Irani urges people to inform police about children orphaned by Covid, stop illegal adoption
India Today
Smriti Irani said anyone who has information about a child whose parents have died of Covid-19 and has no one take care, should inform police and the district child welfare committee.
Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani on Tuesday urged people to inform police about children who have lost both parents to Covid-19 and have no one to take care of them. It is illegal to give or take orphan children of any one else in adoption. Such children should be taken to Child welfare committee, which will take necessary action in the best interest of the child. We all must ensure legal adoption, otherwise children can be trafficked in the name of adoption. Save them. Inform Police or Child Welfare Committee or Childline 1098 if you come to know of any such child. Appealing to the people, the minister said this is a legal responsibility and people should help the government in preventing illegal adoption. In a series of tweets, Smriti Irani said illegal adoption can be detrimental to the child's wellbeing and can also result in child trafficking.More Related News
