Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating after a pedestrian was struck by a police cruiser in Toronto on Sunday.
Police said a scout car and a pedestrian were involved in a collision at Earlscourt Park in the area of Davenport Road and Lansdowne Avenue around 2 p.m.
In a news release Sunday night, the SIU said the victim is a Toronto man in his 30s.
The SIU said a Toronto Police Service officer was operating a cruiser in Earlscourt Park when the cruiser struck a man who was on foot in the park.
The man was transported to hospital for treatment of serious injuries, the SIU said in the release.
Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
The SIU is an independent civilian agency that's called in to investigate reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or sexual assault.
Police said the incident was not related to a festival in the park that saw nine people being sent to hospital after a counter-demonstration turned violent on Saturday.
