
Sister Lucy alleges 'ill-treatment' at Kerala convent, goes on hunger strike

Sister Lucy alleged that she was not allowed to use the fridge, or iron box and that no nun in the convent had spoken to her in the last 4 years.
Sister Lucy Kalappura, who was expelled by the Franciscan Clarist Congregation, began an indefinite fast on Tuesday at the FCC convent in Mananthavady. She has alleged she was denied basic amenities at the convent.
Sister Lucy had protested against Bishop Franco Mulakkal in the nun rape case.
She alleged that she was not allowed to use the fridge, iron box and prayer room and was denied proper food. She said that no nun in the convent had spoken to her in the last 4 years.
"They are treating me like a refugee when the court's order allows me to stay here and use all the facilities," she said.

Sister Lucy Kalappura, who protested against nuns belonging to Missionaries of Jesus Congregation seeking the arrest of Bishop Franco Mulakkal, accused of raping a nun, was expelled by the FCC under the Roman Catholic Church in August 2019.
She was asked to vacate her convent following her protest against Bishop Franco.
