SIRT appealing for witnesses of RCMP crash in Kippens to come forward

CBC
Thursday, May 16, 2024 3:19 PM GMT

The province's Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) is asking for any witnesses or anyone with video of an RCMP vehicle crashing in Kippens on Tuesday to come forward.

SIRT, which is tasked with investigating incidents involving police, got involved the day after the incident.

Video from the aftermath of the crash shows an SUV belonging to the Bay St. George RCMP badly damaged on the side of the road, and a Mazda hatchback with serious damage to the front end further down the street.

The RCMP has confirmed its vehicle had "emergency equipment activated" at the time of the collision.

The crash happened on the Kippens Highway near Lakeview Drive around 3:30 p.m NT on Tuesday. The road was closed for a little over an hour before a single lane opened.

There were no life-threatening injuries for people in either vehicle.
