Irish singer Sinead O'Connor has died at age 56, according to a family statement obtained by the BBC.
Her cause of death was not revealed.
"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad," the singer's family said in a statement. "Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time."

Tel Aviv — American-Israeli dual national Keith Siegel was among three hostages released by militants in the war-torn Gaza Strip on Saturday, more than 15 months after they were taken captive by Hamas. Siegel was freed in Gaza City about two hours after Israelis Yarden Bibas and Ofer Calderon were released in the southern city of Khan Younis.
