Debate sparked by free services signboard at Suresh Gopi's office in Thrissur amid casteist remarks controversy.
Amidst protests over Union Minister Suresh Gopi’s alleged casteist remarks during his election campaign in Delhi, a signboard outside his office in Thrissur has sparked a debate.
“People will receive services as MP of Thrissur Lok Sabha free of cost from this office,” the board reads. It says the office will function from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. from Monday to Thursday.
The board quickly became a point of contention, particularly on social media. “Why is it necessary to specify that services are free? Does it imply that they weren’t free before?” asked some people, adding that the board resembled that of physicians.
However, others supported the board, viewing it as a positive move that would allow ordinary citizens to approach the office without fearing bribery. Some even speculated that it might be an effort to prevent corruption and avoid undesirable practices in future.
The MP’s office, located on Cherur Road, officially opened on Monday in the absence of Mr. Gopi, who was in Delhi. The inauguration was attended by religious leaders from various communities, along with BJP leaders.
