Shura Council approves draft law regulating cash transactions

The Shura Council held Monday its regular weekly meeting under the chairmanship of HE the Speaker of the Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim. At the outset of the meeting, HE the Secretary-General of the Shura Council Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al Fadhala read out the agenda of the session. The minutes of the previous session were ratified. Afterward, the Council reviewed a draft law on the protection of victims, witnesses and the like, which was referred to the Council by the esteemed government. After extensive discussions, the Council approved the aforementioned draft law. The Shura Council also reviewed a draft law regulating the use of cash in transactions, and after reviewing and discussing the provisions of the draft, the Council approved the aforementioned draft law as amended. The work of the session continued, as HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti briefed the Council on her meeting with HE Chair of the Subcommittee on Human Rights in the European Parliamentary Union Maria Arena and indicated that the meeting reviewed ways to enhance parliamentary cooperation between the two sides. During the session, the Council also reviewed the report of the participation of HE Member of the Council Ahmed bin Hitmi Al Hitmi in the work of the Parliamentary Forum on Cooperation in the Field of Research and Libraries, and the report of the participation of HE Member Nasser bin Mohammed Al Nuaimi in the fifth meeting of the Gulf-European Parliamentary Committee, which was held via visual communication technology in May. On the other hand, the Council approved a request to extend the work of the Information and Cultural Affairs Committee to study the conditions of Qatar University.
