Former Maharashtra minister Uday Samant’s car was allegedly attacked by a few Shiv Sainiks near the Katraj Chowk in Pune on Tuesday.
The incident took place a few moments after a meeting of Shiv Sena leader Aditya Thackeray was convened near Katraj Chowk in Pune.
Uday Samant's convoy was passing near the event location. Shiv Sainiks allegedly saw his car and started shouting slogans. A few of them hit and broke the glass of the car. Samant, one of the 40 rebel Shiv Sena MLAs in Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s faction, was going to attend an event.
A video of a mob trying to surround Samant’s vehicle and shouting slogans circulated on social media.
After the alleged attack, Samant went to Kothrud to register a police complaint. “A few Shiv Sainiks attacked my car and the police need to find the attackers who were carrying sticks and stones,” Samant told India Today.
When Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was asked about this incident, he said, "It is not human nature to run away with such cowardly attacks and stone pelting. So everyone should maintain law and order. It is our responsibility that all the rules are followed. If anyone tries to disturb the law and order, strict action will be taken against them."
An FIR has been registered and further investigation is underway.
