Shinde vs Uddhav: As Maharashtra power struggle continues, here's what to expect today
India Today
As the political crisis in Maharashtra continues for the sixth day, here are the top developments that we can expect today.
A day after Shiv Sena workers vandalised offices of several supporters of rebel Eknath Shinde across Maharashtra, the rebel camp has come into action.
Shinde's supporters have decided to organise rallies at several places, expressing their solidarity with him. One rally was held in Shinde's stronghold Thane on Saturday. Another rally has been planned at Sillod, Jalna, on Sunday. Abdul Sattar, the local MLA and supporter of Shinde, is likely to address the rally.
Eknath Shinde is trying to portray himself as a saviour. In a tweet on Saturday, he claimed that his fight is for the workers of Shiv Sena only as he wants to free them from the clutches of the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi. Shinde called the MVA a python.
On the other hand, the BJP is slowly coming into the picture after the initial reluctance. Its leader Devendra Fadnavis left from his Mumbai house on Saturday night for an undisclosed location. He returned close to midnight. Interestingly, this was Fadnavis's third night out in a row. On two earlier occasions, he went to Delhi and Vadodara, respectively, for discussions with top BJP leaders on the Maharashtra crisis. Fadnavis reportedly met Eknath Shinde in Vadodara on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.
As the power struggle is getting intense, here are certain developments one can expect today:
1) Eknath Shinde supporter Abdul Sattar is going to organise a rally in support of Shinde in his constituency Sillod in Jalna. Sattar has announced that he will address the rally. It is not yet clear whether he will remain physically present or speak virtually.
2) BJP leaders are likely to get into a huddle to chalk out a strategy on how to help the Eknath Shinde faction in its legal battle against the Uddhav Thackeray faction.
