
Sheikh Joaan meets FIVB president at Tokyo 2020

HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), met with the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) President Dr Ary S Graca on the sidelines of the beach volleyball action at the Shiokaze Park during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games recently. QOC Secretary-General Jassim Rashid al-Buenain too met the FIVB president following the semi-final match between Qatari beach volleyball duo Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan and Russian Olympic Committee’s Viacheslav Krasilnikov and Oleg Stoyanovskiy. The Qatari team will vie for bronze in the match against Latvia’s Martins Plavins and Edgars Tocs today. Dr Graca also held a meeting with World Athletics President Sebastian Coe at the Ariake Arena where they were able to discuss the critical role of sport in the world’s post-Covid-19 recovery, as well as the success of the volleyball and athletics events at Tokyo 2020. Meanwhile, Acting President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC) President and IOC Executive Board Member, Dr Robin Mitchell, and IOC member Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul from Thailand also witnessed some electrifying beach volleyball action at Shiokaze Park.
