Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, has hit out at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after she raised questions over the reports of a 14-year-old girl who was allegedly raped in Nadia district on April 5.
On Monday, Mamata Banerjee expressed doubt about the cause of a minor girl's death. While the family has alleged gang rape, the West Bengal chief minister questioned if the girl was pregnant or had a love affair.
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari slammed the West Bengal CM for her remarks and said, “Mamata Banerjee should clean her mouth with bleaching powder and phenyl.”
Referring to Mamata Banerjee’s order asking police to probe whether the victim was pregnant or had a love affair, Suvendu Adhikari said, “Such a terrible and petty remark cannot be expected from the mouth of the Chief Minister. It is absolutely beyond condemnation.”
A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped when she went to a birthday party of local TMC leader Samar Goala's son Braj Gopal Goala (21) on April 5. She died on Sunday.
The victim’s family alleged that the body was cremated without an autopsy under pressure from a local Trinamool Congress panchayat leader, whose son is the prime accused in the case. The Bharatiya Janata Party called for a 12-hour bandh in Ranaghat on Monday, demanding justice for the deceased.
Meanwhile, a public interest litigation has been filed in Calcutta High Court in connection with a minor’s rape case.
