India Today
Visuals from Kolkata showed violence on the streets during the BJP stir against the Bengal government over corruption. Several cops and BJP workers sustained injuries amid protests.
Several police personnel as well as BJP leaders and workers sustained injuries as the party’s “protest rally against corruption” in West Bengal turned violent on Tuesday, September 13. Visuals from Kolkata streets showed violent mobs pelting the police with stones and bricks as well as attacking them with lathis and setting fire to the Kolkata Police’s cars. They also showed injured BJP leaders.
In one of the visuals, a policeman can be seen trying to shield himself in vain as a mob hurled bricks at him and rained blows on him with lathis. The impact of the mob attack even shattered the cop’s riot shield in two halves.
A few metres away from him, another policeman was pushed to the ground as the mob thrashed him. However, a few people from the mob pulled him up and escorted him to safety, shielding him from the blows.

One of the officers, identified as Debjit Chatterjee, suffered a broken hand in the attack.
Meanwhile, images shared by BJP state executive member Shishir Bajoria showed ex-MP Swapan Dasgupta sitting on a bench with one side of his body covered in mud. Dasgupta was interacting with the party workers when the police rained down on them, the BJP claimed.
