Shashi Tharoor quotes Majrooh Sultanpuri, Internet points out lyricist was jailed by Nehru

As the race for the Congress president's chair heats up, Shashi Tharoor, one of the top contenders for the post, on Wednesday tweeted two lines by lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri. However, Twitteratti was quick to point out that he was quoting a famous personality who was jailed by the Jawaharlal Nehru-led Congress government.
Shashi Tharoor, Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram, who is in the race for the October 17 Congress presidential election, on Wednesday quoted acclaimed lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri.
He tweeted: “Main akela hi chala tha janib-e-Ghalib magar, log saath aate gaye aur kaarwaan banta gaya. (I started walking alone towards my destination but people joined along the way and a caravan was formed.)”

Tharoor, who is known for dishing out head-scratchers in English, seldom tweets Urdu poetry. His tweet on Wednesday prompted his followers to rally behind him and extend support for his candidature as the Congress’s president. However, a few pointed out that Tharoor, a Congress MP, had quoted Majrooh, who was jailed during the Jawaharlal Nehru government for an ‘anti-Nehru poem he wrote.
