Sewer work shuts down section of York Street for remainder of year

An intersection in the core of London, Ont. will be closed starting Tuesday as the city continues to work on improving its underground infrastructure.
York Street will be completely closed to through traffic west of Clarence Street to the Wellington Street intersection until December 2024, the city said in a statement. Motorists and cyclists travelling on York Street should expect delays in the area for the rest of the summer.
Construction crews are separating the combined storm and sanitary sewers that — when overwhelmed — can lead to untreated wastewater entering the Thames River.
The sidewalk on the south side of York Street will remain open. Signage will be used to help guide pedestrians in the area. There will be no impacts to London Transit routes.
The closure takes place as Clarence Street is already closed at York. Access to the Citi Plaza parking garage from York Street and pedestrian access to the plaza's York Street entrance will remain closed.
Access to the parking facilities on the south side of York Street will be maintained from Wellington Street only. To access the parking garage, motorists must approach from Wellington Road, westbound.
Ongoing construction throughout the city can be viewed on the Renew London website.
