A hiker rescued from "treacherous" conditions on a trail near Mt. Washington in New Hampshire's Presidential Mountain Range died after suffering from severe hypothermia, state officials said Monday.
Xi Chen, 53, of Andover, Massachusetts, was attempting to hike the Gulfside Trail in the Presidential Range when he was "overcome by severe weather conditions," according to a New Hampshire Fish and Game (NHFG) news release.
The hiker's spouse called the agency Saturday around 6:30 p.m. after Chen sent her a text message telling her he was "cold and wet and could not continue on" and that he "felt he would die without a rescue," according to another news release issued Sunday.

A number of Jeffrey Epstein survivors voiced their concern in a private meeting with female Democratic lawmakers earlier this week about the intermittent disclosure of Epstein-related documents and photos by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee, sharing that the selective publication of materials was distressing, four sources familiar with the call told CNN.
