Severe heatwave warning for 10 mandals in Andhra Pradesh on April 12

The Hindu
Thursday, April 10, 2025 4:24 PM GMT

Severe heatwave warning for 10 mandals in Andhra Pradesh on April 12. Chintur mandal in Alluri Sitharama Raju district is likely to record a maximum of 45.7 degree Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast severe heatwave conditions on April 12 in 10 mandals of Andhra Pradesh, including nine in the North Coastal area, according to the A.P. State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA).

Of the 10 mandals, three are in Parvathipuram-Manyam district and six in Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district. Kollur mandal in Bapatla district in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh is among them.

According to APSDMA, Chintur mandal in ASR district is likely to record a maximum of 45.7 degree Celsius. It may be followed by Devipatnam, also in ASR district, which is likely to record a maximum temperature of 44.4 degree Celsius. Kollur is likely to sizzle at 42.9 degree Celsius.

“While 10 mandals will experience severe heatwave, 69 will have heatwave conditions in the State. On Thursday, 38 mandals registered a maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius and above. People are advised to take precautions while venturing out,” APSDMA Director Ronanki Kurmanath said.

The IMD issued a warning that thunderstorms and lightning were likely to occur in some parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and other parts of the State till April 13.

The low pressure over the Bay of Bengal was likely to move north-northeastwards by the end of Thursday, and gradually weaken over central Bay of Bengal, it said.
