Seven girls drowned in a check dam in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore on Sunday.
Seven girls died on Sunday after drowning in a check dam built across the Gadilam river near Tamil Nadu's Cuddalore.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when several local residents gathered at the check dam to swim in the water. However, two girls had gone into the deeper end, after which they cried out for help. Hearing their cry, five more girls went to help them but all seven drowned in the check dam. The seven girls were aged 12 to 19.
The bodies of the seven girls were taken to the Cuddalore government hospital. The police have launched a detailed probe into the incident.
Tamil Nadu agriculture minister MRK Panneerselvam visited the hospital to express his condolences to the grieving families.
