Shylaja trends on Twitter, gets huge support from social media
On Tuesday afternoon, as soon as the news emerged that K.K. Shylaja’s name was missing from the State’s new Cabinet, the social media went abuzz with support for the popular outgoing Health Minister. A few hours later, #ShailajaTeacher began to trend on Twitter. No regional political leader has perhaps in recent time in India been tweeted about as much, or posted about on Facebook, after being excluded from a the Council of Ministers. But, then, few regional leaders or State Ministers have gained as much national and international attention as Ms. Shylaja has. Her handling of the Nipah outbreak had put her in the limelight three years ago.

A whitepaper released at the event highlighted the growing importance of communication skills, the need for stronger collaboration between industry and universities, and strategies to bridge the persistent skill gap.

Under the NBS, newborns are screened for communication disorders before they are discharged from the hospital. For this, AIISH has collaborated with several hospitals to conduct screening which is performed to detect hearing impairment and other developmental disabilities that can affect speech and language development. The screening has been helping in early intervention for those identified with the disorders, as any delay in the identification poses risk and affects successful management of children with hearing loss, according to AIISH.
