Sethu FC wins 1-0 against Sreebhumi FC in Indian Women's League with Nababi's goal and Chanu's saves.
Sethu FC won its first-ever home match here, defeating Sreebhumi FC 1-0, in the Indian Women’s League (IWL) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Saturday.
Assisted by captain Kayenpaibam Anju Chanu, Ugandan Amnah Nababi scored the only goal when her hard kick found the top left of the net in the 60th minute.
Fine saves
Sethu goalkeeper Sarangthem Khambi Chanu made two fine saves. Initially in the second half, she fell to her left to block Apurna Narzary’s firm along-the-ground attempt from outside the box. The second was spectacular as she had to leap and tip Anita Kumari’s shot from outside the box above the crossbar in the 80th minute.
Though Sethu hogged possession, there were a few passing lapses in the first few minutes of the match. Thus, a couple of scoring opportunities arose for Sreebhumi’s Mousumi Murmu, who shot those off-target.
Goal-scorer Nababi went down to the ground, seemingly hurt, towards the end of the match. She was briefly off the field before returning.
