Serious crash closes part of Highway 1 near Bassano, Alta.

RCMP responded to a serious crash on Highway 1 near Bassano, Alta., on Monday morning. The collision occurred approximately two kilometres east of Highway 56.

The collision occurred approximately two kilometres east of Highway 56.

Alberta Health Services said EMS was called to the area around 8:30 a.m. for the crash involving three adults.

One adult patient was flown to hospital in Calgary by STARS. The status of the two other patients was not yet available.

The highway was fully closed for some time, but an eastbound lane and a westbound lane have since been opened.

RCMP encouraged motorists to avoid the area if possible, plan alternate routes and check 511 Alberta for up-to-date highway conditions.
