New Delhi: The Indian equity indices plunged sharply on Thursday as investors turned cautious after Russian announced a military operation in Ukraine. "I have made the decision of a military operation," Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
As of 9:19 am, the benchmark BSE Sensex tanked 1,458 points or 2.55 per cent to 55,774; while the broader NSE Nifty moved 416 points or 2.43 per cent down to 16,646.
Asian share markets also slumped as Japan's Nikkei fell 2.17 per cent, South Korea's KOSPI was down 2.66 per cent and the Shanghai Composite index dropped 0.89 per cent.
Also, Brent oil surged to $100 a barrel for the first time since 2014 amid the Ukraine crisis.
