Section of Deerfoot Trail closed after 1 killed in collision

Section of Deerfoot Trail closed after 1 killed in collision

CBC
Friday, December 2, 2022 3:46 PM GMT

Calgary police say part of Deerfoot Trail is expected to be closed for several hours after a fatal collision early this morning.

A driver in a truck was going the wrong way in the southbound lane between 32nd Avenue and 16th Avenue N.E. this morning, which led to a collision with a car, according to police.

The person driving the car was killed. No further details about that individual were immediately available.

Alcohol is considered a factor in the crash, police said, and the driver of the truck has been taken into custody.

Following the incident, both lanes were closed between those two ramps.

The northbound lane reopened shortly after 7 a.m., while the southbound lane is expected to remain closed for most of the morning.

More to come.
