Scouts and Guides produce responsible citizens, says Udhayanidhi Stalin

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin praises Bharat Scouts and Guides for shaping responsible citizens at diamond jubilee celebrations.
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Tuesday said that the Bharat Scouts and Guides helped shape responsible citizens for the country.
Inaugurating the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Bharat Scouts and Guides and the Kalaignar Centenary jamboree at SIPCOT complex near Manapparai, he said the organisation, which was started in 1950, had produced citizens with lifelong commitment to serve the community. It had grown into a movement that taught confidence, self-discipline and perseverance to the younger generations.
Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin said that empowering youth for a developed India was the theme of the jamboree, which had attracted over 20,000 scouts and guides across the country and various other countries. The jamboree would sharpen the skills of the participants and would guide them towards becoming invaluable assets to the country. It would teach essential skills that would harness the endeavour of community services and cultivate strong leadership qualities. The jamboree would also enable the participants to gain personal development including discipline, self care and other important life skills.
Reflecting on the movement’s history, the Deputy Chief Minister highlighted the vision of Robert Baden Powel, who founded the Scouts and Guides, and said that the future of the nation depended upon the young minds. The seven-day stay would provide a wonderful opportunity to explore the rich diversity of the country and the State tradition, culture and richness.
Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin said that the State government had sanctioned ₹39 crore for the event. It hosted the golden jubilee celebration of the Bharat Scouts and Guides in 2000 by the then Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. The Government led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was honoured to host the inauguration of the diamond jubilee celebrations.
D.K. Shivakumar, Deputy Chief Minister, Karnataka, said that various States of the country, especially south India, had been working together to save the country and the humanity to see that all of them come to the country to show that integrity was very much important. The theme of the event was relevant to make the country a strong and developed nation.
State Ministers K.N. Nehru, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Ma. Subramanian, S.S. Sivasankar and others participated. K.K. Khandelwal, Chief National Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides and delegates from various States participated. Earlier, participants from various States took out a parade.
Built in 1927 during the British era, this marketplace has been a hub of activity for decades, offering everything from fresh produce and flowers to meat, dry fruits and exotic spices. However, years of neglect, accidents and infrastructure wear and tear have taken a toll on this heritage structure. During the 2012 fire incident at the market, more than 170 out of 440 shops, and the general infrastructure of the market was destroyed. The shops were given a basic makeover then. Since then, only the exterior of the market has been renovated, leaving the interiors and the roof untouched for more than a decade.
