The Supreme Court reprimanded the central government on Wednesday over vacant seats in the NEET PG super speciality courses.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday reprimanded the central government and the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for allowing over 1400 seats to remain vacant in the super speciality courses of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG).
The bench was hearing a plea seeking orders for an additional round of counselling for the NEET PG super speciality courses. The court noted that 1456 seats are vacant even after the additional rounds held in May.
The bench of justices Aniruddha Bose and MR Shah said, “You're giving a chance for corruption in admissions if you add seats in the middle of the process,” after the advocate appearing for the Centre said that one of the reasons for the vacancies is that more than 140 seats were added later.

Justice MR Shah said the inefficiency in the system was adding to the stress level of the students and asked the MCC and the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to give an explanation immediately.
"In our education system there is a problem at every stage. You get 99 per cent marks, and then there is a problem with getting admissions. Why is there no streamlining in the education system? Do you know the stress level of the students and the parents?" asked the judge.
The bench further added, “These are super speciality doctors. The country needs doctors.”
