
SC-appointed inquiry commission submits report on Hyderabad police encounter

The commission submitted its report before the Supreme Court on January 28. The topic of the report is the police encounter of four accused who allegedly raped and killed a veterinary doctor in Hyderabad.
The Supreme Court-appointed Disha encounter inquiry commission has completed its inquiry and has filed a report with the Supreme court on January 28. The commission was probing the police encounter of four accused who allegedly raped a woman and burnt her body in Hyderabad.
On December 6, 2019, when the four accused were taken to the crime scene to gather more evidence, they tried to escape police custody. They were killed in an encounter by the police.
The Supreme Court of India on December 12, 2019 appointed a Commission of Inquiry under the chairmanship of Justice VS Sirpurkar, former judge, Supreme Court of India, Justice RP Sondur Baldota, former judge, Bombay High Court and Dr DR Kaarthikeyan, former CBI director, as its members.
The commission was set up to inquire into the circumstances in which the four persons, namely, Mohammed Arif, Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu, Jollu Shiva and Jollu Naveen were killed in a police encounter in Shadnagar of Cyberabad police commissioner's zone.
All four killed in the encounter were named as accused in a rape and murder case of a young veterinary doctor.
The victim, Disha, was kidnapped and sexually assaulted near Outer Ring Road (ORR) on the outskirts of Hyderabad on the night of November 27, 2019.
After the assault, the accused allegedly killed the victim and set her body on fire at an underpass in Chatanpally under Shadnagar on the Hyderabad-Bangalore highway.
