Supreme Court has agreed to hear a plea for the cancellation of CBSE board exams 2022, and other board exams -- CISCE, NIOS, and state board exams.
Board exams 2022: On Monday, the Supreme Court agreed to list a petition that sought the postponement of the physical board examinations for Classes 10 and 12 that are going to be held by CBSE and various other boards this year.
A bench consisting of Chief Justice NV Ramana, Justices AS Bopanna and Hima Kohli took note of a lawyer's request for an early hearing, claiming that the physical examination should not be undertaken owing to the Covid-19 pandemic scenario.
Advocate Prashant Padmanabhan said, "This is regarding Class 10 and 12 board examinations. Physical examination should not be held due to the pandemic."
As per Live Law, Advocate Prashant Padmanabhan's petition reads, "In most of the States during the lockdown period of June - December,2020, no classes were provided to students. Almost 98% of colleges/schools of all the states had not conducted any online class for students in that period."
"Let the matter go before a bench of Justice AM Khanwilkar," the bench said.
It should also be noted that it was Justice AM Khanwilkar's bench that passed a ruling on the board exams in 2021.
The lawyer also mentioned a plea filed by a child rights activist, Anubha Shrivastava Sahai, which sought directions to the CBSE and other education boards that proposed the holding of board examinations in offline mode for Classes 10 and 12.
