Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut congratulated the BJP and AAP for their wins in the UP and Punjab elections respectively. He said that BJP should learn to digest victory and termed AAP’s performance in Punjab as historic.
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Thursday, March 10 said the BJP should learn to digest victory. He congratulated the BJP and AAP for their election wins, terming AAP's performance in Punjab as historic.
"We should congratulate those who won in these states. Congress has lost miserably. It was expected that Akhilesh Yadav would perform well but that didn't happen," he said.
“Maybe if Congress had been in alliance with SP, the numbers would have been better. Wherever there was an option, people chose it. Like in Punjab, people voted for AAP. Congress party election management was not good enough," said Sanjay Raut.
The Shiv Sena and the NCP had announced a pre-poll alliance for the Goa assembly elections. Talking about Shiv Sena's loss in UP and Goa, Raut said that they would keep fighting.
"We contested in UP and Goa. This is just a beginning. We will continue to fight. Priyanka got a good response but didn't get votes, but her fight will continue.”
“We would also continue to fight outside Maharashtra. BJP should learn to digest victory. It's sometimes easier to accept defeat," said the Shiv Sena leader.
In 1989, the Shiv Sena and BJP entered into an alliance for the Lok Sabha as well as the Maharashtra assembly elections. They were traditional allies in Maharashtra, until 2019.
