Puri-based sand artist Manas Sahoo created a sculpture on Monday at Odisha’s Golden Beach to celebrate International Yoga Day. International Yoga Day is celebrated on June 21.
Through the sculpture, Sahoo wanted to raise awareness among people to maintain a healthy lifestyle by practising yoga. The sculpture has “Yoga for humanity” and “International Yoga Day” carved on it.
Talking to India Today, Sahoo said, “Through this sand sculpture I wanted to convey the message that one can stay healthy and fit if he or she includes yoga in their daily way of life.”
He said yoga is an ancient ascetic practice that originated in India that combines physical, mental and spiritual pursuits to achieve harmony of the body and mind. He added that there are numerous benefits of practising yoga regularly and it will help achieve holistic health in every individual.
The 17-foot-wide sand sculpture took about seven hours to finish. Sahoo used about 12 tonnes of sand to create the sculpture.
