The Samsung Smart Monitor M8 also replaces your TV with its catalogue of streaming apps that come pre-installed on it. It comes with Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Apple TV with 4K HDR support.
Samsung has launched a new smart monitor in India that does not need a PC for basic things like working on a document. The new Samsung Smart Monitor M8 is the new addition to the company’s smart monitor lineup in India. The monitor comes with a SlimFit Camera that lets you make video calls, which means you do not need a different setup to do video conferencing on a bigger screen. It even supports streaming apps, such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, without needing anything else, making it double as a TV.
The 32-inch Smart Monitor 8 combines both productivity and entertainment, but it also brings style to your work desk. “With Smart Monitor M8 we aspire to create a product that matches the evolved lifestyle and design taste of Gen Z and millennial consumers as they constantly look for a one-stop solution to work, learn and play. Our new Smart Monitor M8 is built for a PC-less experience for work and entertainment. Its iconic stylish design is meant to compliment and enhance all living spaces,” said Puneet Sethi, Vice President of Consumer Electronics Enterprise Business, Samsung India.
If you compare the Smart Monitor M8 with something like an iMac, it will be a mistake. That is because the Smart Monitor M8 can do only so many things. Sure, you can browse the web, edit documents and presentations, work on projects, and even access Microsoft 365 on it, but that is about it. An iMac, or even a PC, offers so much more. That is where this monitor should be treated as a monitor. You can connect it to a PC or a Mac using wires or wirelessly. You can also connect it to Samsung mobile devices using Samsung DeX for getting certain things done. It also comes with AirPlay 2 support, so it is relevant for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users too.
Modern productivity is incomplete without support for video calls. Samsung’s new smart monitor offers that with the help of a SlimFit camera. The company says the camera is magnetic and detachable, which means it will not take up space on your desk with all those wires. The camera also supports Auto Zoom and Face Tracking, so your video calling experience is going to be good. Google Duo comes pre-installed but you can use any video calling platform through the browser.
The smart monitor also replaces your TV with its catalogue of streaming apps that come pre-installed on it. It comes with Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ and Apple TV with 4K HDR support. The best thing is that you do not need to use a PC or a browser or a phone to mirror content to watch content on any of these platforms. A remote control bundled with the monitor will let you have a TV viewing experience on this monitor. This remote control can also be used for productivity-based tasks. Samsung also offers Samsung TV Plus, the company’s free, ad-supported live TV service, on the Smart Monitor M8.
If you have a smart home, you can use the monitor to manage your IoT or SmartThings devices. Samsung told me that the monitor also takes mouse and keyboard input, in addition to being controlled using a mobile phone or a PC or a Mac.
The Samsung Smart Monitor M8 costs Rs 59,999, but you can get a Rs 5,000 discount on the cart if you pre-book it. Pre-booking, which starts today, also gets customers Galaxy Buds 2, worth Rs 11,999, and Samsung smart wireless keyboard, worth Rs 3,499, a flat discount of Rs 3,000 on their price. Customers who pre-book the Smart Monitor M8 also get BookMyShow and The Body Shop vouchers worth Rs 500 each.
