Sachin Tendulkar pens emotional note for Shane Warne: Thinking of you on your birthday Warnie, gone too soon
India Today
Shane Warne and Sachin Tendulkar were part of some of the most scintillating matches between Australia and India.
Sachin Tendulkar tweeted a warm birthday message for his long-time friend Shane Warne, one of the greatest bowlers to have played the game. Warne, who took 708 Test and 293 ODI wickets in a stunning career from 1992 to 2007, died on March 4 in 2022.
Shane Warne and Sachin Tendulkar were part of some of the most scintillating matches between Australia and India. In 1998, when Australia toured India for a series of Test and one-day internationals, Tendulkar was at the peak of his prowess and his battles with Warne from that Indian summer are now part of cricketing folklore.
Over the years, Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne forged a strong friendship which reflected off the field. Both men, considered to be among the best to have played the game, hold records few can even hope to emulate.
While Sachin Tendulkar finished as the leading run-scorer in Tests and ODIs and as the only man with 200 Test caps and 100 international hundreds, Shane Warne capped off a fine career with 708 wickets in the longest format despite coming from a land where pacers have held sway.
Sachin took to Twitter and wrote, “Thinking of you on your birthday Warnie! Gone too soon. Had so many memorable moments with you. Will cherish them forever mate.”
