In a statement released on Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked his country's special operations forces for "their impeccable service" in Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked the Special Operation Forces of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for "their impeccable service" in Ukraine on Sunday.
In a statement released by the Kremlin on Sunday, he said, "I want to thank the command, the personnel of the special operations forces, veterans of the special forces units for their loyalty to the oath, for their impeccable service in the name of the people of Russia and our great Motherland."
Russia declared war on Ukraine on Thursday, February 24. Ever since, the Russian forces have been launching strikes on military bases and other places across Ukraine. Russian troops are also making their way to the capital city of Kyiv.

On Sunday, it was learnt that Russian forces have blown up a gas pipeline in Kharkiv, the country's second-largest city. Russian missiles also hit the Ukrainian town of Vasylkiv southwest of Kyiv, setting an oil terminal ablaze.
As per RIA news agency, Russia's defence ministry said on Sunday that Russian troops have "completely blocked" the southern Ukrainian cities of Kherson and Berdyansk and taken over the town of Henichesk and an airport near Kherson.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities stated on Sunday that the situation in Kyiv is calm at present and the air defence system in Ukraine's Odesa has been restored.
