The rupee opened in a stronger position against the US dollar on Wednesday.
The rupee gained against the US dollar in early trade on Wednesday. This came after the rupee surrendered early gains to close unchanged at its lifetime low of 78.04 against the American currency on Tuesday amid a weak greenback overseas.
On the interbank forex market, the rupee opened at 77.99 against the US dollar after gaining 5 paise.
Share markets opened in a volatile mode in early morning trade on Wednesday. Sensex fell 0.11 per cent or 59.52 points at 52,634.05, while Nifty 50 was down by 0.14 per cent or 21.50 points at 15,710.60.
Meanwhile, forex traders cited lacklustre domestic markets, elevated crude oil prices and persistent foreign capital outflows as reasons for rupee's fall on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, at the interbank forex market, the rupee opened at 78.02 against the greenback and witnessed an intra-day high of 77.90 and a low of 78.07. It finally settled at 78.04, unchanged from the previous session.
