Ruling BJP retains grip in Assam, MP as Congress makes gains in Himachal; TMC scores 4-0 in Assembly bypolls

Bypolls Result: While the BJP retained its grip in Assam and Madhya Pradesh, Congress wrested seats from it in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka. The TMC, on the other hand, retained two of its own seats while trouncing the BJP on two others.

The outcome of bypolls on three Lok Sabha seats and 29 Assembly seats reaffirmed the notion that the ruling parties fare better than the Opposition in a bye-election, with some notable exceptions.

Bypolls for three parliamentary seats, one each in Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu were held on October 30 of this year.
