IPL 2022, RR vs KKR: Yuzvendra Chahal celebrated his maiden IPL hat-trick by recreating a viral World Cup 2019 meme wherein he was seen chilling along the boundary rope with his sunglasses on. Chahal’s 5-wicket haul helped RR beat KKR by 7 runs in a high-scoring thriller.
Yuzvendra Chahal’s celebrations after he got his maiden IPL hat-trick in a sensational over on Monday caught the attention of the cricket fraternity. After demolishing KKR’s hopes in a high-scoring IPL 2022 thriller, the RR spinner ran across the ground and sat with one knee pointing upwards.
Speaking after winning the Player of the Match award for his 5-wicket haul, Yuzvendra Chahal explained his celebration, saying he tried to create a viral meme from the 2019 World Cup where he was spotted sitting casually along the boundary rope with his sunglasses on.
Chahal’s pose had become a widely-shared meme on social media and the leg-spinner acknowledged it with his celebrations on Monday. In fact, he had also promised once that he would recreate the pose whenever he took a 5-wicket haul.
“It’s like an old meme. In the 2019 World Cup, I was on the boundary. I didn’t play that match, that meme became very popular,” Chahal said when asked about the celebration.
