Rajasthan Royals' newly-appointed captain Sanju Samson is excited to work closely with the franchise’s Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara in the 2021 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The wicketkeeper-batsman was appointed captain after the franchise released Steve Smith from the squad. The former Sri Lanka captain was roped in by Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2021, which is starting on April 9. Having been appointed as the Director of Cricket, Sangakkara will be in charge of overseeing the entire cricketing ecosystem of the Royals franchise, including coaching structure, auction plans and team strategy, talent discovery and development, as well as the development of the Royals Academy in Nagpur. "Yes, I am very much looking forward to leading the Royals. Definitely, a lot of different thoughts are going through my mind, but I would like to keep it simple.
