Routed In Telangana, But BJP's Sting In Tail - Defeats For Revanth Reddy, KCR
NDTV
For the Telangana election, the BJP fielded Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and party boss JP Nadda in its campaign.
The BJP may have been routed in Telangana - it is leading in just nine of 111 seats as the Congress turns in a strong performance to defeat the ruling BRS - but it has nevertheless managed a twin shock.
KV Ramana Reddy has overpowered outgoing Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao - hailed as the 'father of Telangana' - and the Congress' newly-appointed state boss Revanth Reddy, who has been credited with orchestrating his party's win and was seen as a potential Chief Minister-in-waiting.
The defeat isn't quite as serious for the BRS as it is for the Congress, since K Chandrasekhar Rao, or KCR as he is called, is also contesting from his bastion of Gajwel and is expected to win comfortably.
