The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating what it's calling two random home invasions that happened Monday evening in St. John's.
The first, according to an RNC media release sent just after midnight, happened around 7:50 p.m. at a home on Beaumont Street. A man living in the home sustained what the RNC is calling serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
Police said they believe the suspects forced their way into the home after knocking at the entrance and took the homeowner's 2012 grey Honda Civic with licence plate JPB 113.
The second home invasion happened a short time later, around 8:15 p.m. on Maunder's Lane, according to the RNC.
The residents of that home also sustained injuries and were taken to hospital.
"Similar to the previous event, suspects forced their way inside the home, proceeding to assault the residents of the home before leaving the property," reads the media release.
The RNC said it's searching for the suspects, examining the crime scenes and seeking information or video footage that may assist the investigation. The police are also asking the public to report any suspicious activity immediately.
"The suspects are believed to be carrying a weapon, so if you observe the suspect vehicle, do not approach, and contact the RNC immediately," reads the release.
"The RNC will provide updates as information related to the events and suspects are validated by investigators."
Anyone with information to assist in the investigation can contact the RNC or Crime Stoppers.
