Many villagers have been left homeless and forced to move to safer places after the Brahmaputra River wiped out their homes and lands in Assam’s South Salmara Mankachar district.

According to the reports, within a week, at least 50-60 families in Matifata, Sotolapar, Goladigi, Suryamoni, Patakata Fakirganj, Baushkata areas have been forced to move to safer places after the Brahmaputra River wiped out their homes as well as several religious institutions, school buildings and agricultural lands.Usman Ali, a resident of the Matifata area said, “The mighty Brahmaputra River swallowed the Matifata Mosque on Thursday, September 2.”“River erosion has now become the biggest problem in our area. Many people have become homeless. Many villagers have already moved to other places. We are now totally helpless. We urge the government and administration to help these people,” Usman Ali added.More Related News
