Right to watch porn? Tumblr users and Apple are fighting again over adult content
India Today
Tumblr has gone overboard in its action where it is censoring harmless tags because it wants to stay within Apple's App Store, which is famous for kicking out apps over trifling violations.
Tumblr, one of the most popular microblogging websites, has rolled out an update to its iOS app and what it brings is not going down well with its users. The website has blocked any iOS user from accessing mature or flagged content in order to comply with Apple’s App Store’s safety guidelines, but in its gambit to appease Apple, Tumblr has gone overboard with censorship on the platform, so much so that it is affecting the user experience.
Any phrases that may hint that they are some innuendo, blogs that are flagged mature, and tags with a hint of sexual explicitness are no longer accessible on Tumblr’s iOS app. Tumblr said that it had to “extend the definition of what sensitive content is” to “remain available within Apple’s App Store.” The fear is valid because Apple has a history of kicking out Tumblr from its App Store over guideline violations. Tumblr, this time, is doing anything it can to keep Apple happy, but, at the same time, is vexing its users.
