Right now in Iceland: Hot lava and a warm welcome
CNN
Tourism is finally rebounding some in Iceland. What awaits travelers in the summer of 2021: A hot lava show from a newly erupting volcano (Geldingadalur) and a warm welcome from citizens who are glad to have visitors again.
Reykjavik (CNN) — Just a 25-minute car ride from Iceland's Keflavik International Airport, a hiking trail winds over two miles to a view of what's quite possibly the greatest show on Earth right now. Iceland's newest active volcano, Geldingadalur, rumbles up -- at regular intervals for the moment -- into a fountain of bright orange lava that cascades over the caldera's edge so intensely visitors can sometimes feel its heat on their cheeks. For days after I witnessed it on the Reykjanes Peninsula about 35 miles (56 kilometers) south of Reykjavik, I couldn't stop thinking about the thing.More Related News
