In a live Q&A session on Twitter, Ricky Gervais slammed people for calling Jada Pinkett Smith's alopecia a disability. His fans had a lot to say about it.
Only if you are living under a rock, you might not know about Will Smith and Chris Rock’s slapgate at the 94th Academy Awards. The actor actually slapped the comedian on the Oscar stage after he made a joke at Jada Pinkett Smith. The whole incident sparked a huge debate on social media and created quite a stir among netizens. Now, actor Ricky Gervais has slammed people who are referring to Jada’s alopecia as a disability in a live Q&A session on Twitter.
The After Life actor has been quite vocal about criticising Will for the infamous slap. What happened, you ask? Well, Chris Rock made a joke about Jade’s shaved head and compared her to G.I. Jane. Talking about the controversy, Ricky defended Chris’s joke and mocked social media users for calling the auto-immune disorder a disability.
“Someone said it was joking about her (Jada's) disability. Well, I'm getting a bit thin, so I'm disabled. That means I can park right up next to Tescos now, “ Ricky said.
Ricky also said that the 57-year-old comedian’s comment was not “bad” as he condemned Will’s decision to smack him. “You don't hit people over a joke, however bad it is. And it wasn't bad,” he added. “That was like the tamest joke I would ever have told,” he quoted further.
Fans and followers of Ricky had a lot to say about his comment. "I agree Will shouldn't have slapped Chris but you need to understand how emotionally important a woman's hair is, it is devastating to lose it," a user wrote.
Another user commented, "I have alopecia and it is not a disability. At the same time, it shouldn't really be joked about, because you never know how it will impact the person."
Meanwhile, a third person remarked, "I have alopecia & if someone said it was a disability to me that would offend me more than a G.I Jane joke."
