Bengaluru received heavy rainfall and hailstorms on Sunday, bringing respite from the scorching heat. The rainy condition is likely to continue for the next few days.
Parts of Bengaluru witnessed hailstorms and thundershowers on Sunday, bringing respite from the scorching heat.
The mercury dipped and the city recorded a rainfall of 11.2mm on May 1. Areas such as Frazer Town, BTM, Shivajinagar, Vijaynagar and Hosahalli received heavy rain and there were reports of trees uprooting in the BTM and nearby areas.
As per the forecast of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), around 5.4 mm of rainfall was recorded at the observatory in Bengaluru International Airport and 26 mm at HAL airport.
The weather department has predicted rain and thunderstorms in Bengaluru for the next two days. The temperature is likely to hover between 35 and 23 degrees Celsius.
"Due to trough/wind discontinuity over peninsular India in lower tropospheric levels, isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during next five days," stated the IMD.
Amid the heavy lashes of rain and hailstorm, trees were uprooted and electric poles were damaged. Areas such as Madiwala, Balajinagar off Bannerghatta Road, Bilekalli and other places reported hailstorms, while Jayadeva underpass and BVK Iyengar Road were flooded due to heavy rainfall.
