A resolution calling upon the central government to withdraw CUET was passed in the Tamil Naidu assembly.
A resolution urging the union government to take back its proposal of conducting a Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admission into central university courses was adopted by the state assembly of Tamil Nadu on Monday. The resolution calling upon the union government to take back its decision regarding the CUET was moved by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin.
The resolution further said that there is no doubt that this CUET will sideline the school education system countrywide like NEET.
It was further argued that CUET would severely undermine the value of general development-oriented long-form learning in schools, forcing pupils to rely on coaching centres to improve their admission exam scores.
It was further stated, “The Assembly feels that any entrance examination that is based on the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) syllabus will not provide an equal opportunity to all students who have studied in varied state board syllabi across the country.”
The BJP staged a walkout in protest of the motion, while others, including the main opposition party, the AIADMK, and the ruling DMK's allies Congress and the Left parties, among others supported it.
The resolution was unanimously adopted, according to Speaker M Appavu.
