The Haryana government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the Punjab and Haryana High Court's stay on the 75% reservation in private sector jobs for the residents of the state.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday had ordered a stay on the implementation of domicile reservation in private jobs in Haryana. Earlier, the state government had ordered that 75 per cent of private jobs in the state be reserved for Haryana citizens. The Haryana Industries Association, Faridabad Industrial Association, and others had moved the high court against the same.
They told the high court that people are selected in the private sector according to their qualifications and skills. "If the right to choose the employee is taken away from the employers then how will the industry progress," their petition read.
The Haryana State Employment of Local Candidates Act, 2020, came into effect on January 15, 2022. The act applied to jobs offering a maximum gross monthly salary or wages of Rs 30,000.
It covered private companies, societies, trusts and partnership firms in Haryana, as per a notification issued by the state government.
Earlier this month, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala said the quota would open new avenues of employment for thousands of youth.
