Republic Day 2022: Assam Governor unfurls national flag in Guwahati

Assam Governor Professor Jagdish Mukhi on Wednesday unfurled the national flag at the Veterinary Field, Khanapara in Guwahati on 73rd Republic Day.
Assam has joined the rest of the country to celebrate the 73rd Republic Day with enthusiasm. Assam Governor Professor Jagdish Mukhi unfurled the national flag at Khanapara Veterinary College Field in Guwahati on the occasion of 73rd Republic Day celebrations on Tuesday. Assam Chief Minister Himanata Biswa Sarma was also present on the occasion.
In his speech, the Assam governor said that the year that passed by was very challenging for us, adding that the novel coronavirus pandemic tested our patience and resilience.
“The coronavirus pandemic tested our patience and resilience. Many of us lost our near and dear ones in the pandemic. While the world was grappling with this pandemic, our country was fortunate to have a leader like Prime Minister Narendra Modi who led this war against the invisible enemy from the front,” Prof Jagdish Mukhi said.
He further said that the Assam government is focused on zero tolerance against any kind of crime-be it drug smuggling, crime against women and children, human trafficking, cattle smuggling, cyber crime and so on.
“In 2021, 2152 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act have been registered in the state and a total number of 3643 persons were arrested alongside the recovery of 64.15 kg of heroin, 18590.73 kg of ganja, 69.32 kg of opium, 31.64 lakh numbers of tablet, 1.55 lakh bottles of cough syrup and cash amounting to Rs 2.35 crore," he said.
The Governor added, "Further, a mobile app ‘Drugs Free Assam’ has been developed. In the action against illegal transportation of cattle, a total of 685 cases have been registered from January 1, 2021 to October 31 last year and 520 persons have been arrested and 184 vehicles have been seized along with 1709 cattle."
