A 12-year-old boy died due to a snake bite in Tamil Nadu’s Tirupathur. His relatives had to tie his body up in a doli and carry him for 3 km to perform the last rites due to lack of proper roads in the area.
Relatives of a deceased 12-year-old boy were forced to carry his corpse in a doli for 3 km to perform the last rites due to the lack of road facilities in Tamil Nadu’s Tirupathur district. The incident happened in the Kathavalam area near Ambur.
Over 50 families reside in the Kanavai Medu Kuttai area of Kathavalam in Tirupathur district. On Saturday, July 31, a 12-year-old boy, Arjun, the son of Shivan, a daily wage labourer, was bitten by a snake while playing near his house.
Residents in the region carried the unconscious boy in their hands for about 3 km. He was then put on a two-wheeler and taken to Ambur Government Primary Hospital.
The doctors who examined Arjun immediately referred him to the Vellore Government Hospital, but the boy died in the Vellore Government Hospital on Monday, August 1.
Following this, the relatives brought the boy's body to the foothills of Kathavalam in an ambulance, tied the boy's body in a doli, and carried it for about 3 km in the pouring rain to perform the last rites.
Residents in the region continue their demand for proper roads in their area.
