A woman has been charged in the death of an infant following a lengthy investigation.
Officers were called to a home in the 1900 block of Halifax Street for a report of a child not breathing just before 6 a.m. on Aug. 16, 2023, according to a release from the Regina Police Service (RPS) on Saturday.
When officers arrived, they found a three-month old boy unresponsive on the floor. Officers administered first aid until EMS arrived, but the baby was pronounced dead at the scene soon after.
Following a death investigation by the RPS Major Crimes Unit, the Regina Children’s Justice Centre, and the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, a 23-year-old woman was arrested on Jan. 11, 2025.
The woman, who RPS is not naming to protect the identity of the victim, was charged with manslaughter and criminal negligence causing death.
She will make her first court appearance on Monday.
