Realme saying bye bye to bundled charger for devices, Narzo 50A Prime will come without charger
India Today
The cost of the upcoming Realme Narzo 50A Prime could be a little lower in India, considering there won’t be a charger in the box.
Realme has announced that its upcoming smartphone, the Narzo 50A Prime, won’t come with a charger. While this may come as a shock to you, it is not at all surprising. Other brands like Samsung have also stopped shipping chargers in the box. Realme says that the decision has been taken to make a contribution towards a more sustainable environment, which is something that Apple and Samsung are also doing.
While Apple didn’t admit the fact that the move will also help save a lot of money, Realme seems to have acknowledged it. The company has said in its community forum that the move will also help them offer the “device with the best price and offers.” This suggests that the cost of the upcoming Realme Narzo 50A Prime could be a little lower, considering there won’t be a charger in the box.
It is worth pointing out that a report from Daily Mail revealed that Apple is saving around 5 billion pounds after removing accessories from the box, which is around $6.5 billion in the US. But, Apple didn’t pass on the savings to its customers by dropping the prices of the iPhones.
Realme has confirmed that it isn’t planning to completely remove the chargers and this is currently only for the Narzo 50A Prime. The rest of the Realme phones will continue to ship with a wall charger. The company might be doing this to see how people may react to its decision and whether sales will be affected by this. Though, Realme has made it clear this is only being done to make a small contribution to the environment, as excluding a wall charger would lead to less packaging and planet-heating carbon dioxide emissions.
Until now, Samsung has decided not to bundle a charger with three phones in lower price segments. These are the Samsung Galaxy A73, Galaxy A53, and Galaxy A33. The same is also being done for the flagship phones. Samsung just recently took the decision for some of its mid-range devices. It now remains to be seen which smartphone brand will join Samsung and Realme to become a more environment-friendly company.
As of now, popular brands like OnePlus, Redmi, and Vivo haven’t taken any such initiative. Though, Xiaomi announced in December 2020 that the Mi 11 smartphone won’t ship with a charger. But, this was only for the international market and the company hasn’t yet done anything similar for the Indian market.
